There is hope for covid-19 elimination

- Poem By Farai Diza

The sun shines no more.

Tears tell a story.

Fear narrates reality.

Panic heightens uncertainty.

Batman and Zorro wore masks to save the world.

But not all superheroes shine in them,

Yet those masks have flown off the shelves

Like a Black Friday Bonanza sale.

Airports have become sanctuaries of misery

Where a sneeze or cough triggers alarm bells.

Children remain nested at home,

Their education cut off by the savaging virus that’s on a roll.

Tourists are being quarantined, the economy suffers.

Nation after nation borders are sealed.

No going in, no going out!

Sports fans fume in anger

Not because the referee erred in judgment,

But because Covid-19 struck and left strains of despair.

No disco lights or live bands alike.

Self isolation has become the new Shade of Survival.

Soap and water served on the menu

As the amp of hope booms out to the beat.

There is hope in the eyes of infected patients.

There is hope in the posters that graphically detail the pandemic.

There is hope in the whispers of caregivers and medical personnel.

After all, hope and faith have always kept us strong.

Global recession struck but the world refused to crumble.

World War triggered a bomb, still the world didn’t explode.

Fake news imploded, bush fires ravaged

Racism surfaced, climate change culminated

And still the world kept going round.

We have stood together before.

Spheres of change never shattered our resilience.

Let’s stand taller,

Covid-19 isn’t the sky or the flute in an orchestra.

We shall conquer.

It begins with you and I

And that little voice clamouring ‘hope’
