And you’re genuinely pleased when the other does well?

Absolutely. For me I couldn’t think of a better outcome than for both of us to be on the podium in Rio this year. To share the podium with Non at the two biggest races that we attended last year was the ultimate aim of the whole year. And it was fantastic. It meant we could celebrate it together. It would have been a bit harder if one of us had achieved Olympic qualification and one of us hadn’t. It would have meant our preparation for this year would have been completely different. It was fantastic we both did that. Equally, if one of us has a bad race and the other doesn’t… I had a bit of a below par race in Capetown [ITU World Series in April this year] but I was delighted that the person on top of the podium was my housemate. It’s the same for Non as well. At Edmonton we had an exact role reversal – she was sixth and I was first.
