WHO CUT THE ROPE?

A ghost from the past drags long-forgotten secrets to the surface, on Safe Harbour.

TV Soap - - Inside -

So, who did cut the rope connecting the two boats on that fateful night? And why? The bitter truth, which has become an obsession for a group of people whose lives are now entwined in the most unusual way, is about to reach a shattering culmination, in the nal episodes of the SBS drama Safe Harbour.

Many ngers of blame have been pointed and many accusations have been made so that it’s now a monumental task to untangle the ties that bind this group of people together in a way they had never imagined.

Ever since Ryan (Ewen Leslie) and Ismail (Hazem Shammas) crossed paths just weeks ago, during that taxi ride in Brisbane, all the haunting wounds of ve years ago have returned to terrorise them. Details of the fear, the decisions, the loss and the deaths have shattered them all.

What has been revealed, after they met up again, is that just about everyone had a reason to slash the rope binding the asylum seekers’ boat to the yacht of Aussie holidaymakers on that night on the high seas.

What has also been revealed are the brutal lies and deceit they have each kept from each another – some due to shame, others due to guilt.

Nevertheless, what has surfaced has shaken them all.

It is now clear that lawyer Helen (Jacqueline McKenzie) will do anything to protect herself, Damien (Joel Jackson) has become a lost-man-walking, Ryan and his wife Bree (Leeanna Walsman) can’t seem to agree on the events of the night, and Olivia (Phoebe Tonkin) has a story that doesn’t match anyone’s recollections.

And it’s no better with Ismail and his family, who thought they had put the agony of that event behind them years ago.

But now that these old wounds have been exposed again, they realise the facts every person has kept private have resulted in alienating all people in the two groups.

No one, it seems, is who they think they are.

It was Ismail’s rm conviction that it was one of the Australian friends who cut them loose, but that’s has now been shattered and the innocence of his own family is under question.

A suspicious re, a wronged suspect and help from a surprise quarter is now about to change all the rules. It’s clear that nobody is on anyone else’s side. This is a situation that has them all on the run.

As relationships are pushed to breaking point, the question still remains – who did cut the rope?

When the truth nally comes out, it will not set any of them free. In fact, a new nightmare will be unleashed.

A TANGLE OF LIES Damien (Joel Jackson) and Olivia’s (Phoebe Tonkin) stories don’t match.

OLD WOUNDS Ismail (Hazem Shammas) is bent on revenge.

PROTECTING HERSELF

Lawyer Helen (Jacqueline McKenzie).
