Aaron frets on Neighbours that a genetic twist of fate may stop him becoming a father...
Despite recent clashes over how best to parent their pet gold sh, Aaron and David have nally come to the conclusion that although they don’t want to rush into parenthood, they do eventually want kids. So they’re willing to start investigating their options; making a few preliminary decisions, they decide to pursue surrogacy and, after a disagreement over whose sperm should be used, they agree it should be Aaron’s. Unfortunately, the supposedly happy news lls Chloe (April Rose Pengilly) with intense dread as she’s again reminded of the fact that she carries the gene for Huntington’s disease, a secret she’s been hiding from her siblings for months! Faced with the awful thought that Aaron (Matt Wilson) could also be a genetic carrier – and therefore pass it on to a child he conceives – Chloe breaks her silence, revealing all to her brothers and begging them to get tested for the gene, too.
While Mark (Scott McGregor) eagerly books in for the screening, Aaron is gripped with fear and uncertainty, telling a shaken David (Takaya Honda) that he’s not having the test; he’d rather not know if his life is to be irreparably altered! Burying his head in the proverbial sand, Aaron channels his energies into intense gym workouts, stubbornly de ecting all efforts to make him see sense.
It’s not until Mark receives his test results that a supportive Aaron nds the courage to face his demons. Telling David it’s time to confront whatever the future holds for him, Aaron opts to have the Huntington’s tests. But as he and David anxiously wait for the outcome, Aaron remains painfully aware that if he has the disease, or carries it, there’s no way he can risk having a baby with David and damning the child to a horrible life!
