Tweed shop­pers spend big for good cause

TWEED res­i­dents have pledged 2,500 “vir­tual hugs”’ to help those af­fected by child­hood ill­ness as part of Coles’ fundrais­ing cam­paign for the Syd­ney Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal Foun­da­tion’s Gold Ap­peal.

Un­til June 5, shop­pers were able to buy a $2 Gold Ap­peal do­na­tion card at Coles su­per­mar­kets in Tweed City, Tweed Heads, Ca­sua­r­ina, Mur­willum­bah and Banora Point.

The first do­na­tion cards have al­ready made their way to Syd­ney Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal where they are bright­en­ing pa­tients’ walls.

Funds raised from the Coles cam­paign will go to­wards re­search, clin­i­cal care and equip­ment to al­low chil­dren to have the best pos­si­ble treat­ment and hos­pi­tal ex­pe­ri­ence.

Syd­ney Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal is one of Aus­tralia’s lead­ing cen­tres in pae­di­atric clin­i­cal and re­search ex­cel­lence.

Coles State Gen­eral Man­ager Or­lando Rodriguez thanked lo­cal shop­pers who have shown their sup­port for the cam­paign so far.

“The vir­tual hugs sold at Coles su­per­mar­kets have helped to show pa­tients and fam­i­lies at the Syd­ney Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal that we are think­ing of them in their time of need,” he said.

Ev­ery year 69,000 chil­dren from NSW are treated at Syd­ney Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal.
