Back on the Tweed, again
Meet the new editor of the Tweed Daily News
IT’S funny that what goes around comes around, especially in the newspaper game.
For many Tweed Daily
News readers, I am a familiar (if not slightly older) face reacquainting myself with an “old friend” – the paper at which I started my media career. My association with the
Tweed Daily News stretches back more than 32 years, having spent 23 years at the paper before finding myself moving on – but not too far from the Tweed.
For the past nine years I have been travelling from my home at Cobaki to Southport, working at the Sun Community Newspapers but always keeping an eye on the Tweed through the
Tweed Daily News and then Southern Sun and as a proud local resident.
With the merging of News Corp and APN, the Tweed
Daily and Suns have come under the same management umbrella and I have had the pleasure of being reunited with a very good colleague in Nikki Todd, who served as the editor of both the Tweed
Daily and the Suns. Ironically Nikki and I worked together when there was a Tweed Sun several years ago.
Now Nikki has accepted a new challenge and a decision was made that I should be the person to fill her shoes – taking on the responsibility as editor for both the Tweed Daily News and Gold Coast Suns.
It’s a tall order but I am fortunate to have a small but hard-working team – Aisling Brennan and Rick Koenig in the Tweed office in Wharf St and Laura Nelson, Kate Paraskevos and Alexandra Bernard in Southport.
The media industry is constantly changing, as readers will be well aware, but one thing remains – the need to be reflective of the community you serve – and as a proud Tweed local, it’s something I intend to continue.
I look forward to catching up with old acquaintances and new ones and delivering informative and entertaining news along the way.
GUESS WHO’S BACK: Bob Anthony is the new editor of the Tweed Daily News.
