■ THREE sports clubs in Murwillumbah can now purchase life-saving technology to help people experiencing cardiac emergencies. Lismore MP Thomas George presented the federal grants to the clubs last week as part of the Local Sports Defibrillator Program. “Sport is vital part of the Murwillumbah community’s social fabric and we need to make sport as safe as possible,” Mr George said. “For Far North Coast Hockey, Murwillumbah Rifle Club and the Tweed River Hockey Club all now have access to a defibrillator. The first eight minutes after a cardiac arrest is vital to giving people the best chances of survival so I recommend all the clubs in our area to apply to this grant program.” The program will remain open for applications from now until May 2019.
