Hardly very welcoming

Tweed Daily News - - OPINION NEWS -

WE ARE residents in Tweed Heads where large buildings are going up around the town, bringing with them hundreds of new residents and ratepayers.

I would like to ask the Tweed Shire Council why the main bus stop that welcomes visitors to NSW from the north is so badly neglected and downtrodden and has been for many years?

Same question applies to the northbound stop across the road where the interchange between Queensland and NSW takes place.

This is an embarrassment to the town.

Would the councillors please come up to the bus stop where our tourists get their first glimpse of this beautiful region. It’s a horror!

While they’re here, I would urge them to take a look around at the boardwalk at Jack Evans Boat Harbour where the wooden boards are begging for maintenance and are fast becoming a risk for public liability claims.

Finally, the plight of the homeless in the town is evidenced everywhere. Your sympathy is appreciated but these people need concrete solutions. — Gabi Smalley, Tweed Heads
