MUSTANG WITH A BULLITT
THE 50th ANNIVERSARY edition of the Mustang Bullitt that stole the limelight at the Detroit Motorshow in January is due to land on our shores late 2018, Ford Australia has announced.
Celebrating the iconic McQueen film, the Mustang Bullitt will be sold as a limitededition model and only available in the classic Dark Highland Green of the original movie car.
The Mustang Bullitt is to be based on the 2019-year model Mustang, boasting tougher looks, new technologies and due for introduction in the second half of the year.
Although final Australian specifications are yet to be announced, the 5.0-litre V8 is set to get a power boost to 350kW (up by 44kW ) and 570Nm (up from 530Nm) as per the US model. Expect an auto option and six-speed manual transmission, with, fingers crossed, the cue-ball gear knob as sold in America.
Anyone that knows their movies or cars knows that
Bullitt features one of the most legendary car chases in movie history; the 10-minute sequence follows Steve McQueen at the wheel of a 1968 Mustang 390 GT 2+2 fastback as he chases two hitmen driving a Dodge Charger 440 through the streets of San Francisco.
Ford Australia President and CEO Graeme Whickman said “Steve McQueen as Bullitt created a legend and Mustang Bullitt is the perfect way to salute an icon of the silver screen. We’re excited to offer Australian buyers the Mustang Bullitt, especially on the 50th anniversary of the legendary film.
“The Mustang has far exceeded our expectations, and for that, we hope that the 2018 model – and the arrival of Mustang BULLITT – goes to show that we’re bringing in even more choices, options and flavours to help give customers the Ford Mustang they want,” Whickman added.
Since its arrival in late 2015 the Mustang has been the nation’s biggest selling sports car.
