THE VACC TURNS 100 AND CELEBRATES WITH A 100 CAR ROAD TRIP

The Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce has celebrated its 100t h anniversar y wit h a cava lcade of 100 vehicles. It was an ambitious idea and t he event is believed to be t he f irst of its k ind in t he world. The cars met at Calder Park Raceway before heading up to Bendigo, where it a ll began for t he VACC on 20 September, 1918. A large variet y of vehicles was on show, with over 60 brands represente­d. Each car represente­d one year of t he past 100 years of motoring. The day was hosted by actor and passionate motoring enthusiast, Shane Jacobson – he brought his own WB ute to ta ke part in t he cava lcade.

Some of the most notable cars included an original 1957 Mercedes Benz 300SL ‘Gullw ing' and a 1975 Leyland Force 7 Coupe. Also included was t he one time silver screen star, the 1969 Aston Martin DBS Vantage Coupe used for a ll of the driv ing sequences in the James Bond movie On Her Majest y’s Secret Service.

The large crowd around Bendigo Town Hall precinct welcomed the cars to a Pebble Beach concours st yle presentati­on. Event ambassador Shane Jacobson presented a brief histor y of each car on a purpose built stage. After wards there was Show 'n' Shine with a chance to get up close to the vehicles and ta lk to t he owners.
