Waldorf Astoria’s first post in the Maldives welcomed guests starting July 1, 2019. Only a 30-minute journey from Malé International Airport via the resort’s fleet of four yachts, Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi stretches across three private islands and consists of 122 villas.

Each of the beach (39), reef (24), and overwater (56) accommodations features an infinity pool, a dining gazebo, and an outdoor deck with a swinging daybed. Extra privacy-seeking guests can opt for the 32,000-square-foot Ithaafushi Private Island that combines two villas, five swimming pools, an overwater spa, an entertainment center with a cinema, as well as a dedicated team of chefs. Or select one of the two Stella Maris Ocean Villas, one-bedroom duplex accommodations with floor-toceiling windows.

With 11 specialty-concept venues, Waldorf Astoria offers the largest selection in the Maldives. The hotel also produces its own still and sparkling water as part of sustainability efforts.

The 107,000+ square-foot spa comprises of 10 overwater and garden treatment villas. Art selection highlights herons, native birds to the Maldives, as a symbol of balance and calmness. Among the 25 sculptures dotted around the botanical garden are two ‘yoga herons’ in tree and lotus poses. A dedicated spa buggy picks up guests from their villas to enjoy a menu of 30+ treatments that are based on earth, water, fire, and metal. The extensive menu of treatments includes Asianinspired therapies focusing on relaxation or rebalance.

The Signature experience is a 90-minute Starlight Ocean Massage that is only available 9-10:30 p.m. Another highlight is a Carol Joy facial that includes 24-carat gold to calm and hydrate the skin. Sustainability is a key focus for Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi. Guest touchpoints include wood key cards; Salvatore Ferragamo bathroom amenities in refillable marble containers; a weekly presentation by the resident marine biologist to raise awareness about the marine life; and a coral adoption program.

The Waldorf Astoria Young Discovery Park, a water park for young guests, and the Lagoon Pool are ideal for families looking to enjoy a variety of activities with ease. Other facilities include the beachfront, 40-meter Mirror Pool; the Ocean Pavilion, a fully-equipped fitness center; and a combined water sport and PADI dive center.
