Throwback to the 90’s

Urban Cyclist - - Agenda -

They might have publicly aired it in the UK for the first time all the way back in April, but the memories of Colchester-based Evanson Bike Works’ stunning steed remains just as vivid as its multi-coloured paint job. The bike proved one of the most visited of this year’s Bespoked handmade bike show, held once again at Bristol’s Brunel Old Station, and you can see why. But as designer and builder Richard Evanson reveals, that love’s more than skin deep. “It’s in collaboration with Hope Technology, which they displayed at the Berliner Fahrradschau [Berlin bike show] in March,” Evanson explains. “The customer wanted an all-road bike that’d accommodate a 650b tyre so she could go bike packing, touring… At last year’s show, there was an award category for ladiesspecific bikes and my other half was, ‘ If you do the show again, bring a ladies’ bike.’ I did – but there was no category! Still, it’s a bike I’m proud of.” Evanson only started designing and forging his own bikes in 2015 but fast-tracked his talents under the watchful eyes of acclaimed builders Ken Baker and Lee Carey.steel allow upfront, Evanson.“The tubingextra Evansonbike’s flared“In clearanceand fact,a bars beast predominantlydid two offerso andfor panniersagain wider greatercan off-roadworkscan three stability.Zonafit bottles,”easilywith ATB tyres Columbusalong chainstayswhile, adds with a further front-loadedbottle cages, bag. All in all, it’s about versatility as, increasingly, more people want a one bike for all situations.” Which is all great but we know what you’re thinking – what about that paint job? “The customer wanted a semi-feminine look and we thought that 90s anodised throwback worked perfectly,” says Evanson. “Yes, this colour is a touch flamboyant but it’s clear that many of us judge a bike by its colour.” www.evansonbike
