Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Colorado, USA
There is definitely more to a good Viking than a robust body and a lengthy beard. Learn all about this fascinating race with the exhibition Vikings: Beyond the Legend, on now at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The myth-busting exhibition is a treasure trove of more than 500 pieces – the largest collection of Viking artefacts to visit North America. Many have never been seen outside of Scandinavia. See full-scale model Viking ships and virtually excavate a ship layer by layer, uncovering rich discoveries like weapons, tools, and animals just as archaeologists did. Examine dozens of artefacts showing the work of highly skilled craftspeople who used many different materials, including textiles, wood, metal, bone, leather, glass, and ceramics. Even test your strength with an accurate model of a Viking sword. The exhibition will also delve into Norse mythology, the world of Thor, Odin and other gods, and show some exquisitely carved swords, armour and religious icons. Vikings: Beyond the Legend is on until 13 August, 2017. dmns.org
