Malala is on board with Celebrity

-

Malala Yousafzai, 19-year-old Nobel Laureate and U.N. Messenger of Peace, has been named as the Godmother of Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship, Celebrity Edge, which will make its debut late next year. Inspired by Malala’s mission and advances in furthering education for girls, Celebrity has also announced a two-year partnership with the Malala Fund. With the shared commitment to diversity, inclusion and gender equality, the brand is partnering with the Malala Fund, whose mission is to secure 12 years of safe, free and quality education for every girl. Philippa Lei, the interim CEO of Malala Fund, said “We cannot get 130 million out-of-school girls into classrooms on our own. We are grateful to generous partners like Celebrity Cruises who support our work to help every girl learn and lead without fear.”

Malala wrote about life under the Taliban in a secret blog and was shot on the way to school at the age of 15. She survived, and in 2014 became the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She donated her entire prize earnings to finance a secondary school for girls in Pakistan. malala.org/donate/celebritycruises
