The New­port on Syd­ney’s North­ern Beaches, Bert’s Bar & Brasserie is a re­laxed yet el­e­gant brasserie and cock­tail lounge, rem­i­nis­cent of a by­gone era. The in­te­rior design takes in­spi­ra­tion from the grand ho­tel din­ing rooms of the 1930s and the easy­go­ing vibe of the area, with the French-style win­dows over­look­ing the Pittwa­ter es­tu­ary. The coastal Euro­pean menu is di­vided up by the open kitchens – from the raw bar’s oys­ters and dressed crab, to the larder’s fresh sal­ads and char­cu­terie. Mains in­clude fresh lob­ster from the tank, a range of beef and whole fish roasted over char­coal or over Basque grills, ac­com­pa­nied by sim­ple sides of vegeta­bles. There is also a beau­ti­ful wine cel­lar which fea­tures a range of Aus­tralian and Euro­pean drops, in­clud­ing an im­pres­sive se­lec­tion of rosé.
