2018 is being celebrated as the Year of Gastronomy in Macao, which is one of only 26 cities around the world to be recognised as a Creative City of Gastronomy by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Macao has many magnificent places to tantalise the taste-buds, with one of them being António, located in Taipa Village. The restaurant, which opened its doors in 2007, is led by award-winning Portuguese chef António Coelho, who is dedicated to the promotion of authentic Portuguese cuisine with a modern twist. The menu boasts such delights as sautéed clams, Portuguese duck rice, Portuguese rabbit, charcoal barbecue jumbo tiger prawns and seafood paella ‘António’ style. And the only dilemma with dessert is whether to order the banana au flambée with rum or the Portuguese cheesecake. Located in the best preserved area of Taipa, the restaurant is warm and inviting. Before your meal, take time to explore Taipa Village, which was formerly home to local fishermen and still features cobbled streets and traditional shophouses that are far from the glitz and glamour of Cotai Strip. antoniomacau.com
