InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland

Built into the side wall of a formerly abandoned quarry in southwestern Shanghai, InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland is the hotel group’s 200th hotel worldwide. It stretches 88 metres underground, and is considered an architectural feat. Located in the Sheshan mountain range, the 336-room hotel is mostly subterranean, with two floors above ground and 16 below ground. This includes two floors underwater with bedrooms encased within a turquoise aquarium. All hotel rooms on the bottom floor are provided with 24-hour butler service. Rates start from 3767CNY (about A$782) per room, per night.
