Maori culture
A new exhibition on the art of Maori culture is on display at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra until 25 August. The exhibition, MāoriMarkings:TāMoko, spans 250 years; features portraits of Māori men and women; and explores the tradition and origins of tā moko, the unique Māori art of marking the skin. The exhibition includes important early Māori sculptures, 19th-century prints, paintings and photography which trace this unique cultural art form.
