Wildlife conservation tour
Boutique tour operator Crooked Compass has partnered with Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation to provide travellers, for the first time, the opportunity to join its release program. Individuals will learn and assist in releasing a re-habituated orangutan deep into the East Kalimantan jungle into protected areas. Founder of Crooked Compass Lisa Pagotto says the once-in-a-lifetime experience is very controlled, under the guidance of the team release leader and the head vet. The 10-day expedition will travel through the Hindu temples of Prambanan before a train journey through Central Java. In the old Dutch city of Malang, participants have the opportunity to stay in the former President Sukarno’s residence, and experience sunrise from Mt Bromo; before trekking and camping in the forest for the orangutan release. Travel dates will be determined depending on orangutan release dates.
