The first COMO hotel on continental Europe, the Como Castello del Nero, has opened in the Chianti wine region of Italy, a 30-minute drive from Florence and Siena. Located in a 12th-century castle, the property features 50 rooms and suites. Known for its focus on wellness and wellbeing, the COMO Hotels and Resorts group has adjusted the spa to include more therapeutic wellness experiences at the COMO Shambala Retreat, as well as activities in the region including hikes and cultural excursions. Throughout the historic property, traditional design influences have been retained, including terracotta flooring, fresco walls and vaulted ceilings; while modern design elements have been thoughtfully incorporated to reflect the COMO style. The Michelin-starred La Torre restaurant draws on the property’s own vineyard, bee hives and olive groves for produce, with an emphasis on sourcing locally. Rates start from €430 (about A$707) per room, per night.
