Skip your dinner

-

Getting a good sleep often trumps eating dinner, lunch or breakfast when you are flying. Yet many passengers don’t realise that dozing instead of dining can lead to excess food waste. Enter Japan Airlines’ ‘Ethical Choice Meal Skip’ option, encouraging flyers to opt out of in-flight meals ahead of time. Available in all classes, the selection must be made 25 hours before the flight departs, and those who apply will receive the JAL original amenity kit on board instead. The frugal initiative is just the latest in the airline’s sustainability efforts, dubbed the ‘Effective Utilization of Limited Resources’, with the basic stance of promoting the four Rs: refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle. JAL introduced paper straws in October 2019, and has been recycling maintenance uniforms since 2013 and in-flight waste since 2007. jal.com
