Accessibility for all

-

The challenges of navigating the world for people with disabilities and seniors has long been a barrier. However, Wheel the World’s new website hopes to open up the possibilities of accessible travel further by hosting an accessibility mapping system (AMS). This means that users can now customise personal accessibility profiles, and the site will match them up with compatible trips – including places to stay, things to do and multi-day tours – that cater to their specific needs in more than 50 destinations. Details can range from wheelchair accessibility, specific transcription requirements and braille signage, to adaptive equipment availability, building entry specifics, bed heights and special room needs. The information is crowdsourced through ‘mappers’ submitting information on more than 200 data points to inform site listings on the Wheel the World app – already the most comprehensive database of its kind. gowheeltheworld.com
