Kylie’s comeback
Kylie Kwong’s long-awaited South Everleigh diner – named Lucky Kwong, after her late son – opened its doors to Sydneysiders in May. For those expecting a Billy Kwong II, prepare to be pleasantly surprised, as the casual Australian-Cantonese eatery is more akin to the acclaimed chef’s beloved Carriageworks stall. Only open for lunch, it’s very much a walk-in-andorder-at-the-counter affair. The menu includes daily specials highlighting producers (think steamed Boon
Luck Farm bok choy with tamari and sesame), as well as Kwong’s creative signatures such as delicate prawn dumplings with Sichuan chilli and native bush mint, and steamed savoury pancakes (the reason for the queues at the aforementioned Saturday morning markets) with Fish Butchery’s yellowfin tuna and XO. luckykwong.com.au
