Indigenous awakening
The National Gallery of Victoria hosts some of the world’s most prestigious exhibitions. The latest? Bark Ladies: Eleven Artists from Yirrkala (until 25 April), which showcases an extraordinary collection of bark paintings and larrakitj (painted hollow poles) by women artists working out of the Yolngu-run art centre, Buku-Larr gay Mulka Centre (Buku), in North-East Arnhem Land. Among the artists are Nancy Gaymala, Eunice Djerrk u Yunupi u, Dhuwarrwarr Marika and Malaluba Gumana.
