Through the lens
© Adam Ferguson
An Australian photographer has taken the top gong at the Sony World Photography Awards 2022. Adam Ferguson was awarded Photographer of the Year, pocketing the US$25,000 cash prize and a range of Sony digital imaging kits. His winning work, titled Migrantes, is a series of black-and-white portraits of migrants in Mexico, taken as they waited to cross the border into the United States. Photographed in collaboration with the subjects, Ferguson allowed each person to choose the moment of capture and participate in the process of documenting their lives.
