What do you love about your job? Winemaking, for me, is the perfect mix of science (from botany through to fermentation kinetics), manual labour (rolling barrels, swimming nude in red grape ferments) and spending time working outdoors in the vineyard. It’s a far cry from an office job and there’s always a glass of wine around at the end of the day if required. Where was the last place you flew for business? Portland, Oregon, just outside of the Willamette Valley, where I worked with friends in wineries there. How do you pass the time while you’re in the air? On domestic trips I spend my time daydreaming with music playing; for long hauls I branch out to movies and novels. Chatting with your neighbour is great too. Everyone’s so excited about where they’ve been or where they’re headed. What’s your all-time favourite holiday destination? Verbier in Switzerland. Whether its summer for mountain hiking or winter for skiing, the surrounds and people there are the best. Especially if one likes to party or ‘heave on’, as they say in the Alps. What do you never travel without?

Decent headphones. What’s your top

travel tip? Don’t over-pack, if you have your credit card and passport you’re pretty much covered in case of an emergency, so just relax. Also, we’re all getting off the plane at the same time so don’t stand up and get flustered about getting off. Where are you

heading next? Adelaide for The Hot 100 Wines South Australia; I’m the head judge. Pouring, talking and drinking wines — I can’t remember if it’s for business or pleasure.
