Best Female Artist 1987, 1988 “In retrospect, I think [winning an ARIA] means a lot because it kind of validates what you are doing in your music. At the time [being the first woman to win an ARIA], there was nothing to compare it with, so I was pretty blasé about it. But now, I look back and I think: ‘Yeah! I am really proud of that.’ I think the benefit of awards is to allow your industry to, on one particular night, come together and celebrate as an industry, and it’s especially significant in Australia because we are down the bottom of the world and it’s important for us and for the public to know how important we are on the world stage.”
