GODFREY DEENY
As a close friend of designer Alexander ‘Lee’ McQueen, Godfrey Deeny’s poignant essay in this month’s issue reflects on the life of the influential designer. Sharing his favourite memories, Deeny thinks back on his time spent with Lee with happiness. “I enjoyed a close friendship [with McQueen] from his early days drinking in London until a final dinner in Milan three weeks before he died,” he says. “My favourite memories of him were his brutal frankness and cackling laugh after his shows in Milan, when he would let his hair down and freeassociate about his diverse and bizarre sources of inspiration.”
