The Vogue team travelled to Adelaide for this month’s cover shoot, inviting ourselves into model Adut Akech Bior’s family home and community. The shoot, which saw the entire Akech Bior family congregate to celebrate their model relative, was one of the most extravagant and logistically challenging in Vogue history – getting couture from Paris to South Australia is no mean feat! Adut’s older sister, Akima Akech (also known as Kim), has seen the model transform from a novice into one of the most famous names in fashion. But despite her sister’s celebrity, especially in Adelaide, Akima maintains she’s the same girl she always was. “I’m very proud that she’s made her dreams come to life,” she says. As for the cover shoot, Akima states that although the clothes, make-up and glamour were fun, it was the family coming together that made it special. “The most important thing for me was being able to share that experience with my siblings and my family.”
