Whitmore’s first role was playing Debra Messing’s daughter in the 2007 US miniseries The Starter Wife. Since then she’s won parts in festival favourite Girl Asleep and, most recently, The Family Law and Picnic At Hanging Rock – all while completing high school.
“One of my goals is to create my own content. I want to go behind the scenes, as well as star on screen, so I want to be able to fund my own work. In terms of acting, my aim is have flexibility to be able to pick and choose my own work, work that is really interesting, and to tell stories I think need to be told and to make people think. Storytelling is really important to me. I think it’s vital to human history and we need to tell it for future generations – what we were like and the lessons they can learn from us and to keep traditions that we have. Stories are really important and movies are there for people when we need them. I want to make movies that are there for people.”
