Actor and Boy Erased director Joel Edgerton makes his

Vogue writing debut with an essay about his hopes for the Australian film industry: “When I see the success of recent movies such as Ladies in Black, I’m buoyed by the possibility of finding that story we can tell back home that not only has local resonance but can also find its way to resonate on a world scale … I’m so thankful for my success and really value the place that I’ve carved out in the States. But

I miss my own country. And after all my experiences, the idea of coming home and the desire to participate in a bigger way just feels right.” New York-based Edgerton edited part of Boy Erased in Sydney last summer and says he loves coming home. “My favourite thing about going back to Australia for summer is getting to take my shoes off, surfing and having nothing to worry about.”
