DO TELL …
When Zoë Foster Blake, founder of Go-To, launched Zincredible, a lightweight physical SPF 15 sunscreen, the internet had a meltdown. In the time it took her to formulate Zincredible, four years and 130 versions, she learnt a lot about the white stuff. Here, the hot takeaways.
LAYERING SUNSCREEN AND MAKE-UP
“Generally speaking, chemical UV filters (Helioplex, oxybenzone) are most effective when applied first, on clean skin, while physical sunscreens (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) should be applied as the last step of your skincare, just before make-up. If you’re still confused, a fail-safe route is: cleanse, apply a moisturiser with SPF or straight-up sunscreen, and then make-up.”
BE WARY OF FOUNDATIONS WITH IN-BUILT SPF
“Don’t rely on your make-up as your sun protection. The ‘make-up’ amount of product you use is not nearly enough to give you the SPF rating on the label.”
SUNSCREEN MATHS ISN’T A THING
“Oooh, please don’t DIY your SPF. If you use a moisturiser with SPF15, and then apply a SPF30 BB cream over the top, you do not have SPF45. Best to apply a solid broad-spectrum SPF as part of your skincare and be done with SPF, rather than attempt mash-ups.”
