Hermès always nails the moment – and for us that moment is all about vinyl. Guests enjoyed record-store heaven in the basement of the not-for-profit gallery Fortyfivedownstairs on Melbourne’s Flinders Lane for the super-sensory Silk Mix interactive installation. Decks, headphones, records and cassettes lined the room and the crowd got into the groove. Silk Mix is the clever coming together of the Hermès menswear runway music by soundtrack composer Thierry Planelle and the legendary silk department at Hermès. On display were Planelle’s vinyl albums from an archive spanning the past 15 years with covers made from silk scarf prints, and cassettes skinned with silk tie prints. Headphones allowed participants to play any of Planelle’s goodness, and rising talent Harts played live music on the night. Other live acts performing over the next few nights, including Remi and the Delta Riggs, continued to draw the cool crowd. It was an audio sensory overload and we loved it.
