FACING THE FUTURE

As the taboo lifts on cosmetic treatments and medical aesthetics surges in popularity, it’s more important than ever to find an aesthetic practitioner you can trust on your beauty journey.

-

If you’re tired of those fine lines around your eyes or on your forehead, you’re not alone. A recent study shows that more than 73 per cent of consumers surveyed expect to spend money on a physician-administered aesthetic treatment in the next 12 months. This rise in popularity of aesthetic treatments signals a change in the way people perceive treatments, lifting its taboo, to the extent that 82 per cent of consumers surveyed worldwide believe injectable treatments are socially acceptable.

But before you book your cosmetic treatment, it’s important to first do your research. Take time to assess what you want to achieve (the actual look/ result) and find an aesthetic practitioner who is suitably registered, qualified and experienced to take you on your treatment journey. Once you’ve found a practitioner, you can check whether they are registered by going to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency website. The key to achieving a look you’re happy with lies in the initial consultation with your practitioner. Like every successful journey, it’s all in the planning.

Saving face

If you’re considering a cosmetic treatment, here’s a checklist that may help. Firstly, check your aesthetic practitioner’s registration and agree on a treatment plan. Next, ask for the name of the product that will be used, whether it’s registered and has an ARTG number, and make sure it’s not fake. It’s also a good idea to ask the practitioner when to expect to see results, and how long they’ll last. The final step is to check if your clinic is registered and ask your practitioner if you can see beforeand-after photos of their work. Once you’ve checked this list, you’re ready to discuss your treatment journey with your practitioner.
