JOSH OLINS
“The whole day was enjoyable,” says photographer Josh Olins of his experience on set in London with this month’s cover star, Oscarnominated actress Carey Mulligan. “I did feel like Carey was laughing at me – or with me, but most likely at me – all day and I think she managed to feel very relaxed on set, which was great,” he adds. When asked about his creative process, the New-York based Brit describes the shoot as relaxed and informal this time round. “The concept [is] very simple and the photos are about the personality and expression of Carey in a variety of lighting situations.”
JANE ALBERT
For this issue, avid ballet fan and contributing arts writer Jane Albert spoke with former principal dancer David McAllister, who will this year retire as artistic director of the Australian Ballet after 20 years in the prestigious role – see page 150. “I first started watching the Australian Ballet as a five-year-old,” says Albert. “I watched David as he was promoted to the highest rank of principal and, as a very new journalist, reported on the appointment of this precociously young dancer to the top job of artistic director. To now be writing his farewell piece is bittersweet,” continues Albert, who describes McAllister as humble, generous, collaborative and funny. “I hope readers will gain a sense of these qualities through my story.”
ALEC MAXWELL
While visiting Australia in celebration of Vogue Australia’s 60th birthday, British Vogue digital creative director Alec Maxwell made a video starring model Adut Akech on the set of her shoot with Emma Summerton in New South Wales – see page 124. “Meeting Australia’s fashion industry on the harbour, partying with Celeste Barber, filming Adut
– it felt more exciting the second time around,” says Maxwell, who has travelled to Australia once before. “Being able to shoot an episode with Adut in Australia was a dream,” he says of the experience. “The landscapes Emma had storyboarded for the shoot were epic. Adut and the landscapes made a breathtaking duo.”
