MOLLY GODDARD
We ask fashion’s preeminent talents to mine their inspirations and curate their world through style. Faced with a second lockdown, London-based designer Molly Goddard highlights music, film and fashion genres that provide constant sources of joy.
1. “I always mix my perfumes but I like to have Santa Maria Novella Patchouli for just one single spray as it’s powerful.”
2. “I like to walk everywhere in London when I can. I love finding new areas as I get where I’m going. Seeing friends at the pub is also probably my biggest hobby.”
3. “[I admire] Miuccia Prada – I used to look at the Prada shows mainly to see what she was wearing for her wave.”
4. “My friend Alex Tieghi-Walker has the best taste and sells some of what he finds online at Tiwa Select.”
5. “I buy a lot of vintage clothing. Things which have been handmade make me very happy; I love thinking of how much care and love went into them. I love Comme des Garçons and when I was in Japan in January, I found an incredible shop selling all second-hand pieces. I only ever buy antique or second-hand – I love going to markets and finding unique pieces of gold and talking to the sellers about the history.”
6. “Artist Cindy Sherman is a legend, and she sent me a Christmas card, which made me so happy I framed it!”
7. “Donna Tartt’s The Secret History is one of the few books I can read again and again.”
8. “I love Michelangelo Antonioni films – my favourite is The Passenger (1975) – particularly how they can be slow-paced but watchable, as everything is beautifully constructed.”
9. “I love dancehall and soca, it makes me happy and think of Notting Hill Carnival, my favourite weekend of the year.”
10. “I wish I had danced more with my friends and been more sociable. We have been back in the studio for a few months, which has been great. I don’t think working from home is very healthy for me, I like to be around people and physical things.”
