LOCAL SECRET:

FREMANTLE,

Poppy Lissiman (of the eponymous cult accessories label) on the buzzy Perth hub she’s recently returned to after living in Sydney for several years.

I grew up in and around Fremantle, had an office here for almost nine years and my parents live here. Now that I’m back, I rarely tend to leave the area as everything I could ever or want or need is down here. The second date with my now-husband, when we climbed all the way under the Fremantle traffic bridge with a bottle of wine and drank it as the water rushed beneath us.

Darling Darling bar is loads of fun. For a strange piece of history, be sure to check out Marilyn Monroe’s bathtub in the bathroom. Ooh Coffee in North Fremantle.

Madalena’s Bar in the afternoon sun, with a glass of

COFFEE: PEOPLE WATCHING:

natural wine in hand.

Mother for the best vegan dishes.

The vegetarian laksa at High On 55. Also loving the Smashburger from Smash Grill, which in my opinion is on par with Shake Shack.

Hands down, Manuka Woodfire Kitchen (if you can get in!). South Beach. As I type this from my parents’ place I saw

BRUNCH: LUNCH:

DINNER: SLICE OF NATURE:

a dolphin breach.

IDEAL SATURDAY MORNING:

for a cinnamon scroll.

Fremantle Arts Centre’s annual Revealed exhibition – showcasing new and emerging WA Aboriginal artists – is unmissable.

Fremantle is known for its old-school grocers. I love Galati & Sons or Peaches. For difficult-to-source or speciality items and delicious snacks, Kakulas Sister is an institution.

On Fridays and weekends you can’t go past the Fremantle Markets for every food choice under the sun.

Zamia West End on Airbnb.

On foot or bike. Or Uber!

CULTURE FIX: BRING SOMETHING HOME FROM: FARMERS’ MARKET:

WHERE TO STAY: GET AROUND:

Walk along the dog beach to Little Loaf Bakery
