Hermione & Anthony
London-based expat Hermione Underwood and her husband Anthony Bellm invited guests from all over the world to their joyful second wedding in Mallorca, spread over three days.
VOGUE AUSTRALIA: How would you describe the theme
of your wedding day? “We spend a lot of time in Mallorca and love the laid-back vibe, the spirit, energy and landscape of Deià. With guests joining us from all over the world, we really wanted to create an amazing few days for them to experience the area and celebrate with us. Our main focus was for everyone to get to know each other and most importantly, to have fun. We crafted each of the three days around an idea. Day One we called ‘Birds of Paradise,’ our wedding day was ‘Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18’ and day three was your classic recovery pool party. Creatively, we’d already had our more traditional church ceremony in England, so we felt like we could have fun with our Spanish events.”
VA: Why did you pick your venue? “We were lucky to marry at my husband’s family home in Deià. The location is not only stunningly beautiful, but also holds a really special significance to us as a place where we’ve shared so many happy moments.”
VA: Tell us about your wedding attire. “Above all, I wanted the vibe to match the location. The whole experience in the Dior salon was a dream, and it was the first gown I put on that felt immediately effortless and uncontrived. The fabric and craftsmanship were, of course, amazing, and it felt like exactly the kind of elevated simplicity I was confident in. I wore custom Dior shoes personalised with ‘Mrs Bellm’.”
VA: What about accessories? “With such a perfectly minimalist gown, I landed on a classic, two-tier, unadorned veil by Leah Da Gloria, diamond studs, and a gold necklace that echoed the sun motif we used throughout. My husband has lived in India and we incorporated some really beautiful traditions into our ceremony including the gifting of a mangalsutra necklace. It is an item I will treasure. To finish it all off, our florist created the ideal bouquet of long-stemmed white roses.”
VA: Describe your hair and make-up. “The brief for my bridal look was effortless, bronzed and fresh. I did not want anything remotely overdone as the vibe in Mallorca is so laid-back. My hair was brushed out and relaxed, but with echoes of something more structured. It had to last the day and night, and this less ‘done’ style was perfect for that.” VA: The most unexpected part of your wedding day? “Absolutely without doubt the fact that my husband surprised me with Nick Mulvey singing our favourite song live as I walked down the aisle. We both love his music and completely without me knowing, he’d arranged for Nick to be there. As I rounded the final corner on my father’s arm, I just remember getting to the start of the aisle and seeing that it was him singing, not a pre-recorded track. I still can’t get over it. It was unbelievable.”
