Cecilie & Jacob
Cecilie Thorsmark, CEO of Copenhagen fashion week, and Jacob Berliner, CEO of Soulland, live and breathe Scandinavian style. No surprise then that their special day was a show of beauty and elegance.
VOGUE AUSTRALIA: How would you describe the theme of your wedding day?
“A good friend of ours, artist André Saraiva, had made the visuals inspired by his ‘Amour’ signature graffiti. We used it for the invitation, stationery, beers and goodie bags, and once that was decided on, it also set the tone for the theme of the wedding – cheerful and full of love!”
VA: Why did you pick your venue? “On one hand, we wanted to anchor our love locally – right in our neighbourhood – in order to create memories that would surround us for the rest of our lives. On the other hand, we wanted to throw a weekend wedding with a huge party where our guests would spend the night far away from home not having to think about kids waking up early the next day. That’s why we chose to wed in our local church – Frederiksberg Kirke – and then invite the guests for a stay at the estate Aggersvold Gods, an hour away from Copenhagen. It turned out to be the perfect combination.” VA: Tell us about your wedding attire. “It was Mark Kenly Domino Tan together with dressmaker Birgit Hallstein who created my dress. I’ve known Mark for more than a decade and worked with him many times before, and I felt very confident that he would create the perfect custom-made dress for me – a dress that both had classic references, but also dared to break with the conventional – hence the completely open and backless feature on the dress.” VA: What about accessories? “Accessories were kept very simple as well. A pair of Sophie Bille Brahe earrings and a diamond wedding band made by our friend, atelier Kalle Holm. Jacob got the same ring and to us it was important that it wasn’t just a new ring, but that it carried some family history. Therefore, the gold was reused gold from my mum and my grandmother, and Jacob’s mum and grandmother.” VA: The most unexpected part of your wedding day? “I’ve been surprised to learn how much the selection of songs meant. Songs seem to make up emotions and memories that will be with us for the rest of our lives. In the church, we opened with a choir that performed a version of Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’ – a song we’ve loved for many years; and we danced to Peter Sarstedt’s ‘Where Do You Go to My Lovely’. Whenever we, or our daughters, hear those songs we are filled with emotions.”
