The whimsical new-season collection from Melbourne-based label Mimco took inspiration from unique sources.
Global cultural trends, surrealism, traditional Japanese design and sprinkles of intuition and originality all informed Mimco’s Dreamscape Wanderer collection, available at David Jones.
“Our muse for this collection is a dreamer,” says Mimco’s head of design, Ailsa Roe. Her world is filled with contrasting ideals: perfect forms and surrealist art; Japanese heritage techniques and the ultra-modern; soft neutrals and vibrant, clashing pops of colour.”
These aesthetics were perfectly captured by photographer Duncan Killick for the collection’s campaign shoot with model Diya Prabhakar (pictured), which took place on the ‘Art Islands’ of Kagawa prefecture, Japan. The locations, home to part of the renowned Setouchi Triennale art festival, epitomise the dreamy essence of the collection, as does rising star Prabhakar.
Dreamscape Wanderer marks a new chapter for Mimco, says the brand’s managing director, Sarah Rovis, with fresh design directions that include an ‘ultra-fine’ range. “Mimco prides itself on creating design-led pieces that can be collected, treasured, loved,” says Rovis. “The ultra-fine styles are designed to be worn layered together,” adds Roe. “Look closely and you’ll find the smallest of details including seasonal motifs such as dragonflies, bumblebees, parachutes and our signature Mimco heart.”
The new season also sees a makeover in Mimco’s shoe category. “We’ve meticulously considered all aspects of design, comfort and, of course, the Mimco quirk factor!” explains Roe.
