JIM DARLING
Artist Jim Darling is a man of aesthetic contradictions. Describing his artwork through the lens of opposites – “simple yet detailed, fluid yet textured, and realistic yet abstract” – the Dallas-based painter and sculptor proves there is beauty to be found in the everyday. For his work accompanying Alice Birrell’s story on her fear of flying, ‘Thin air’, Darling’s simple depiction of the view outside a plane window is more than just a view; it symbolises what lies beyond. “It is a simple concept, and hopefully there is enough detail in the painting to give the viewer a chance to explore, as one does in the window seat,” he says.
