Given the modelling and celebrity power force she has become, it is funny to think that when we published Gigi Hadid’s first Vogue Australia cover in June 2015, we felt the need to describe her as a ‘social supermodel’. She is a serious success and wears the layers of the season’s exaggerated knits and coats in the most appealing way. If you are a huge Gigi fan, we have also printed a limited-edition special one-off cover (above), available for purchase only online and sure to become a collector’s item. Go to Vogue.com.au for details.
This month, we also feature the beautiful Australian actress Yvonne Strahovski, who has been captivating audiences as the captivating Mrs Waterford in The Handmaid’s Tale. In May, Yvonne was in Melbourne to shoot Angel of Mine, directed by Strangerland’s Kim Farrant, when she thrilled us with the news she is pregnant (she later announced it on Instagram, too). She will return to Canada to shoot season three of The Handmaid’s Tale, which will commence after the baby is born. I am not sure how so many of us missed the fact that the beautiful Mrs Waterford with her immaculate US accent was in fact a Sydney-born native who honed her craft at the University of Western Sydney, but at Vogue, we have certainly embraced and claimed her now, and welcome her to our pages while wishing her our best for the impending birth of her first child and motherhood to follow.
Finally, I congratulate another powerhouse and favourite of Vogue’s, ModelCo founder Shelley Sullivan (see page 99), for wowing the world with the launch of her collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld. She founded her company at just 21 and is clearly still going from strength to strength – what an inspiration.
