10 FAVOURITE THINGS

Marimekko president and CEO Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko on what makes her heart sing

-

1. LAPLAND I love the northern lights, the magical peacefulness and the gentle beauty of the soft fields. I enjoy skiing and snow-walking; after a day of winter sports there is nothing better than relaxing by a fire in the cabin. 2. COURAGEOUS people like Armi Ratia, founder of Marimekko, who have never been afraid of walking their own path in life boldly — regardless of what others say. 3. CONTEMPORARY ART My favourite places include the Kiasma museum of contemporary art in Helsinki ( pictured) and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Art takes you on a journey to another world, it ignites your senses and imagination. 4. RESTAURANT SAVOY IN HELSINKI It’s the ultimate multi-sensorial Helsinki experience. I love going there for special occasions. 5. MARIMEKKO DESIGNERS I am continually amazed by the endless source of creativity of our designers. I feel honoured and inspired to have the chance to work with such talents, to see how they interpret the Marimekko philosophy of bringing joy to our everyday lives. 6. FINNISH DESIGN is part of my everyday life. Not only Marimekko but also Artek and Nikari, to name just a few. 7. ONLINE SHOPPING is my guilty pleasure. I am also super-excited about Australia’s new Marimekko online store. 8. RUNNING I travel a lot for my work and I have found that a great way to beat jet lag is to start off the morning with a quick run. It is such a great way to get a feeling of the city as well. 9. HORSE RIDING is my favourite hobby and the best way to unwind. 10. QUALITY COFFEE There is nothing better than the smell of freshly ground coffee beans in the morning. We Finns drink the most coffee per capita in the world. It could be linked to our long, dark winter months. My number one coffee shop in Helsinki is Kaffecentralen. VL Visit marimekko.com.
