A longtime Vogue Living contributor, Cairns felt privileged to capture the images of her hometown seen throughout this issue. “With a thriving art scene, we met so many talented creatives showcasing their work and homes,” she says, “but taking performance artists The Huxleys to the streets of Fitzroy was definitely a highlight. They confidently strutted their lighting-bolt outfits to many admiring head turns.” The photographer finds inspiration in “beautiful light. Whether it’s a moment of sunshine hitting an object, a memorable scene from a film, a mood board or a fleeting dramatic sky, it makes me want to re-create the emotions it imbues”. She’s equally inspired by the subtle charms of her city. “The laneways that lead to cool secret bars, unique shops and striking street art. The cultural and culinary diversity means there’s always great food and art experiences to be had. And I love having four seasons — even if it is in one day!”
