EDITOR’S LETTER

-

Summer is here at last and, with the festive season upon us, I feel a little more joyful as we say farewell to a year that the world will definitely never forget. A new year brings with it reflection on the past 12 months and anticipation for the next 12. This issue of Vogue Living sets an optimistic tone for 2021, bringing a sense of hope, fun and solace, welcoming you into a world of beautiful, soulful design.

We have the most breathtaking holiday retreats to escape and delve into, from an incredible coastal home in Noosa inspired by the work of architect Geoffrey Bawa (page 148) — an open space that perfectly fuses indoor with outdoor living — to the most fabulous haute-bohemian Mykonos abode, owned by Australian-born designer and beauty entrepreneur Rebecca Korner (page 86).

The pandemic has, of course, been challenging, but it has also sharpened the imagination and vision of our creative community. Acclaimed photographic artist Michael Cook turns his family home in Queensland into an art installation in his thoughtfully captured images (page 72). We also take an exclusive look into the Roman home of Australia’s design darling, Collette Dinnigan, whose trademark romantic style is on show within her 18th-century rooftop apartment and her new ceramics range (page 63).

With border restrictions easing, it’s time to finally book that trip to get to know our own spectacular country. Our insight into a place that sparks awe, the Northern Territory, features some of the most intimate cultural experiences on offer, as well as exquisite imagery by Jeremy Simons capturing the majesty of this sacred land.

And on a personal note, I can finally look forward to seeing my extended family. It has been 12 long months since we were last together and I cannot wait to see my loved ones and truly appreciate long sunny days with them. I feel this holiday season will take on a new level of significance, following a year that has taught us all to better appreciate our health, freedom of movement and need for connection.

From myself and the Vogue Living team, I wish you all a wonderful break, and if you are fortunate enough to spend it with family and friends, be present and cherish those moments that little bit more.

Happy holidays.
