YMCA to stay as manager

WANGARATTA YMCA has had its contract to manage the city’s major indoor sporting complex and swimming pools extended for two years from July 1.

Councillors last week decided to grant the extension of contract to YMCA Victoria that involves management fees of $339,018 in 2017/18.

With the building of extensions to WISAC with a hydrotherapy pool and potential outdoor heated 50-metre pool at the adjacent Barr Reserve, council intends to advertise the contract in two years’ time.

“With the addition planned and pending facilities at WISAC a two year extension of the current contract would allow a new contract for the management and operation of the upgraded facility to be advertised once works are completed,” council’s report read.

“An upgraded facility may result in additional interest from operators previously disinterested in tendering for the contract.”

YMCA was said to have showed “a strong demonstrated ability to fully perform the functions of service” over the last five years.

“They have successfully met contract requirements by continually providing a service that is both value for money and meets overall customer satisfaction requirements while enhancing overall health and wellbeing for our children and families in the community,” YMCA’s assessment read.

Ann Dunstan from Tarrawingee questioned last month’s council meeting saying she didn’t think the YMCA’s community and marketing capacity was what it should be.

Council director of community wellbeing Jaime Carroll said there were some areas where they continue to push for increased communications and promotion and they will continue to work with the YMCA on those.
