DEDICATED fundraising over the last three years has enabled the RSL Wangaratta sub-branch women’s auxiliary to hand over a $20,000 donation towards the RSL’s new building.

Women’s auxiliary president Narelle Power said the group followed the tradition of its forebears a century ago in contributing to the redevelopment of the former Sydney Hotel in Templeton Street as the group’s new base.

“One hundred years ago, local women did the same thing in helping to establish the RSL in Wangaratta,” Mrs Power said.

“We have been able to put away a bit here and there over the last three years so that when we move, it can go towards a new kitchen.”

The $20,000 cheque was pre- sented to RSL sub-branch secretary Greg Larkins during last week’s North East area women’s auxiliary luncheon, held at the group’s current home in Reid Street.
