Showtime for poultry, dogs
LOCAL clubs will share their interests with spectators and the community as part of an Autumn Fun Sunday event being held at the Wangaratta Showgrounds on Sunday.
While a pony club show will no longer be taking part, there will still be plenty to see with the Wangaratta Kennel and Obedience Dog Club holding obedience trials at 9am, before the annual Million Paws Walk starts at 10am.
Dog owners and their pets can watch the trials, take part in a range of activities and browse stalls showcasing merchandise and pet accessories.
The Wangaratta Poultry Show is also being held in the poultry pavilion where bird enthusiasts and their more than 440 birds will compete, with three judges assessing the soft feather, hard feather and water fowl categories.
Club member Greg Vonarx said judging will begin at 9.30am but spectators are free to come along and see the beautiful birds on display including chooks, ducks and turkeys.
He said the spacious facilities were ideal for people of all ages to take a close look at the birds which will be in tip top condition for the show, competing for the “best in show” top prize across all sections.
“We’ve got lovely showgrounds here and we are very lucky to have these facilities, with really wide aisles between the rows of cages so people can wander around,” he said.
“It’s going to be a really social event on Sunday where a lot of people who share the same interest can come together in the one place to catch up.”
The Wangaratta Men’s Shed will also be represented on the day displaying their handmade wares and other items, including cages and kennels, furniture, garden benches, planter boxes and more.
There will also be stock feed and grain suppliers in the shearing shed and plenty of refreshments for sale.
Entry is free and everyone is welcome with the action to start from 8am and the poultry prizes to be announced at midday.
