Whincup ready to tackle Winton

Wangaratta Chronicle - - Sport - V8 SUPERCARS By JEREMY WILSON

SEVEN-time V8 Supercars Champion Jamie Whincup is looking forward to immersing himself in the country atmosphere at Winton Raceway when racing kicks off today.

The seventh round of the championship kicks off today with practice sessions ahead of two races – one tomorrow and one on Sunday.

Whincup sits in foreign territory in the standings, down in fifth position with star Ford driver Scott McLaughlin leading the way.

But the Red Bull Racing star remains as calm as ever and said while the racing would be full on this weekend, he enjoyed the change that Winton brought.

“They’re all important but for me the great thing about our sport is that we get great variety,” he said.

“We go to hot places, cold places, long tracks, short tracks but it’s really important to not forget what motorsport is about.
