GOTAFE open days for all
See what’s offered, including free courses, at campuses
GOULBURN Ovens Institute of TAFE (GOTAFE) is opening up its campus doors to the wider public this month.
Chief executive officer Travis Heeney said open weekends at GOTAFE campuses in Wangaratta, Shepparton, Benalla, Seymour and Werribee will “allow everyone the chance to discover training opportunities available for next year”.
From 10am until 2pm on designated days, GOTAFE’s five campuses will take it in turns to open the doors for everyone.
The Wangaratta campus in Docker Street will hold its open day on Sunday, October 21, while the Benalla and Seymour campuses will have an open day on Saturday, October 13, Shepparton’s Fryers Street campus will open on October 14, and the Werribee campus will be open on Saturday, October 20.
Mr Heeny said the State Government’s range of ‘Free TAFE’, available from next year, ensures eligible students from across the Goulburn Valley/North East will be able to access free training at GOTAFE in a range of courses that lead to jobs most in demand from Victorian employers.
Through Free TAFE, the Victorian Government will cover tuition fees for 20 priority TAFE courses and 18 preapprenticeship courses from January 1, 2019 for eligible students.
Victoria’s unprecedented building boom of road and rail projects, new schools and hospitals, as well as increased support for Victorians living with disability and historic action to curb family violence has created a massive demand for skilled workers, many of who can learn the skills for those jobs at TAFE.
“Open Day is a chance for those thinking about study to find out more,” Mr Heeney said.
“Trainers will be on hand showcasing our purposebuilt facilities and simulation equipment, running demonstration activities and answering all of your questions.
“Our Skills and Jobs Centres (including Wangaratta) will also be open, with career advisors available to assist with your course or job search.”
The list of Free TAFE courses available at GOTAFE is available at gotafe.vic.edu. au/freetafe.
It is important to note that eligibility criteria apply for Free TAFE, and other fees and charges, such as student service fees or materials fees, may also apply.
Students can check their eligibility by calling GOTAFE on 1300 GOTAFE or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Enrolments for 2019 courses at GOTAFE open from November until February.
